This allows the call to be handled quicker, in many cases immediately providing the patient with the information they need. The need for callbacks and messages left on answering machines is greatly reduced. For multi-location practices, many patients want to see their personal doctor, no matter where he or she is working on a given day. As a result, patient charts have to be transferred and faxed between the various locations daily. For walk-ins and other unscheduled visits, this means patients are often seen without their charts, since the charts are located in one of the other offices.
